Arkwrights started started selling British food at the market which is held at Chiringuito Antonio on Tuesday 16th November 2004. It was so successful that our stock was increasing by the week, to such a point that we were running out of space, then a shop came up for rent and we took the plunge. Arkwrights was born on 8th August, 2005.

Our motto has always been if you require an item please request it and if at all possible we will stock it, this is how we have grown from selling in one space to extending our shelving space so that it is so out of reach we had to invest in two more ladders. We bought the house off of our landlords in June 2006 and then opened a further room which we outgrew probably one month after knocking walls down to extend. We have covered over the terrace area so that we can sell outside unperishable items. As an update we have now extended into our store room taking down a further wall and making far more space for customers and stock, we are using this for our Christmas card and related items until after Christmas when we have other plans for this space.

In May 2008 we moved the food into larger premises and still that was not big enough, and then this Monday (13th July 2009) we made the ultimate move into what people after only two days are calling it “Arkidona” we consider this to be a great compliment, we intend to introduce more Spanish food into what everyone is calling our Supermarket, no longer can we be called Alladins Cave in our food store, we have the benefit of having all our stock in the same building which will make everything a lot easier for everyone.

We listen to people, we try and stock items that people require, not what we THINK they may require, we now have a reputation for getting things for people on request, we are 99% successful, we have customers who travel from Almuenecar, Granada, Competa, and Malaga city for things that we stock.

Finally, Geoff and I (Linda) would like to thank everyone who has had faith in us and given us the honour of their custom, without you the customer we would be nothing, and it is the customers who have helped Arkwrights become what it is today.
